‘The Lord Of the Rings’ Amazon TV Series Sets Series Regular Cast Member
According to Variety Australian actress Markella Kavenagh, who starred in the recent “Picnic at Hanging Rock” mini-series, has become the first official cast member for Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” TV series. Kavenagh will play a character named Tyra, but further specifics are under wraps.
The series will be set in the Second Age, approximately three millennia before the events at the beginning of “The Lord of the Rings” with that first film’s opening battle (and the first defeat of Sauron) marking the end of the ‘Second Age’.
The Second Age began after the banishment of Morgoth, the dark lord before Sauron, and the new series could deal with the rise of Sauron, the creation of the One Ring, and the emergence of the Ringwraiths.
Juan Antonio Bayona (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” “The Impossible”) will direct the first two episodes and also executive produces alongside Belén Atienza. JD Payne and Patrick McKay are writing the series which hasn’t yet begun production.
