As reported by Variety Two of Marvel Studios’ five ‘Phase Four’ films are set to film at the Disney-owned Fox Studios complex in Sydney, Australia.

NSW Minister for the Arts Don Harwin has confirmed today that a previously announced, but untitled, Marvel film that the state had attracted is indeed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. In addition, he confirmed that Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” will also establish its base at the studio.

The films will be shot back-to-back with “Shang Chi” to shoot early-mid next year whilst pre-production for “Thor” simultaneously takes place from March. Then “Thor” will begin shooting from August through until near year’s end.

In addition, “Thor: Love and Thunder” is set to receive over USD$16.7 million (AUD$24.1 million) of subsidies from the Australian federal government and the New South Wales state government with the production expected to pump around USD$124 million into the local economy.

This also marks a location shift from “Thor: Ragnarok” which was filmed in Australia, but at Warner Brothers Studios on the Gold Coast. The news comes as Disney-owned VFX firm Industrial Light & Magic recently announced plans to open a production facility in Sydney.

Marvel has previously shot most of its projects in the state of Georgia or the UK. Two other Marvel Phase 4 projects, “Black Widow” and “The Eternals,” are shooting primarily around London.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” opens February 12th 2021, “Thor: Love and Thunder” hits on November 5th 2021.
