Disney reveals SVOD bundle, two-market international roll-out plan
The long-speculated streaming bundle of the new streaming services Disney+ and ESPN+ along with Disney-owned Hulu has now been announced as part of the Mouse House’s quarterly earnings call today.
For $12.99 a month subscribers can access all three services, though Hulu’s live TV plan is not included in the bundle. On their own, Disney+ will be $6.99, Hulu is $5.99 with ads, and ESPN+ is $4.99 – so if you’re willing to pay for the first two and switch to the bundle, you effectively get the third for a penny.
The $12.99 price point is the same as Netflix’s standard two-screen plan, and $2 less than HBO NOW, and several dollars less than the announced HBO MAX. During the call, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the streaming service is “the most important product the company has launched in my tenure”. Iger also confirmed the plan is to make the service available via Amazon, Apple and other distributors.
Disney+ will launch with 300 film titles and 7,500 episodes of Disney TV series (almost all of which are Disney Channel titles) with a plan to get to 400 film titles in the first year. It will also be home to several Marvel series, the first live-action Star Wars series, and already announced new series spin-offs of familiar IP like “High School Musical,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Monsters, Inc.”.
During the call, Iger also revealed new adaptations are underway for more classic titles from the Disney and Fox catalogue including “Home Alone,” “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Night at the Museum”. The bundle will be available when Disney+ launches on November 12th.
