Out doing the promotional rounds for “Yesterday,” filmmaker Danny Boyle has confirmed he is working on another film in the “28 Days Later” franchise.

Speaking with The Independent, he says he and the first film’s writer – “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation” filmmaker Alex Garland – are re-teaming for this third one which follows on from the 2002 original and the 2007 sequel “28 Weeks Later” directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo:

“Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part. It’s properly good. The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that. It doesn’t feel stale at all. He’s concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it’s stood in abeyance really, but it’s a you-never-know.”

At the time it was unlike any kind of zombie film that I had seen before. It definitely brought something fresh, cool, and unique to the genre. I’d love to see what Boyle and Garland have come up with for this next chapter of the franchise!

No word on when either of them will both be free to pursue it further. Boyle’s “Yesterday” hits cinemas on June 28th.
